The private residence in Los Angeles, CA commands attention for its polygonal structure and use of bright, warm colors. In addition to the other design elements, reSAWN TIMBER co.’s MURASAKI [shou sugi ban charred cypress](https://resawntimberco.com/shou-sugi-ban) adds complexity and beauty with it’s pronounced wood grain. The neutral tones of the exterior siding allow the other architectural elements to stand out. Designed by [hughesumbanhowar architects](http://www.huum.com/), the house is an ode to the firm’s philosophy to be “guided by curiosity and intelligence.”

The second location under the Mistral brand umbrella, [Mistral KOP](http://www.mistralkop.com/) is a chef driven restaurant concept at the King of Prussia mall. Four-time James Beard semifinalist, Scott Anderson, will continue to oversee the Princeton and King of Prussia locations. Different than the typical mall dining experience, Mistral’s exterior and interior designs combined with the seasonal, local menu are set to introduce a dynamic culinary experience to the area. Found throughout the project are diverse examples of reSAWN products: [WABI SABI shou sugi ban exterior siding](https://resawntimberco.com/product/wabi-sabi-accoya-shou-sugi-ban/), [GOVERNOR european white oak flooring](https://resawntimberco.com/product/governor-white-oak/), and [custom stairs](https://resawntimberco.com/rstco-furniture/) designed to match the flooring.

Located at the epicenter of H Street in Washington, D.C., [The Apollo](http://www.theapollodc.com/) brings an exciting apartment complex to one of the most dynamic neighborhoods in D.C. The lobby is large and open with a full bar and seating area to the right of the front desk and elevators located behind the desk. White tile floors lead up to the most impressive feature of the new complex: a three level balcony that includes reSAWN’s Antique Reclaimed Oak flooring, wall claddings, and stair treads from the[ enCORE collection](https://resawntimberco.com/encore-collection-reclaimed-wood-flooring/).

## WESTERN RED CEDAR BENEFITS
- **DURABILITY**–Western red cedar is a naturally durable softwood that creates extractives (Thujaplicans and Phenolics) that ward off decay caused by insects, water infiltration, and fungi. The extractives increase with age leading to a longer lasting product life cycle–especially in exterior applications.
- **DIMENSIONAL STABILITY**–WRC has a very low shrinkage factor and is largely superior to all other coniferous softwoods in its resistance to warping, checking, and twisting.
- **THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY**–WRC’s low density gives it a high thermal insulating value because it contains a high proportion of cell cavities. In dry wood, these cavities are filled with air which is one of the best known thermal insulators. The R value is 1.35″ (34mm) of thickness.
- **FIRE RESISTANCE**–reSAWN’s CHARRED CEDAR has a Flame Spread Index of 40 and a Smoke Developed Index of 140 to give it a Class B Rating. CHARRED CEDAR can be fire treated to Class A for interior projects.

In the southern part of the Canadian provence of Alberta, this private residence in Calgary used reSAWN’s [TORA shou sugi ban charred cypress](https://resawntimberco.com/product/tora-shou-sugi-ban/) exterior siding. The design is largely cubic with various squares and rectangles jutting out from the primary building structure. TORA shou sugi ban, from reSAWN’s [CHARRED NEUTRAL collection](https://resawntimberco.com/shous-sugi-ban-charred-neutral/), maintains a natural color tone with varying depths of revealed wood grain.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
Located at the very end of the Overseas Highway in northern Key West, this bayside private residence included **reSAWN**’s **NEWPORT** black walnut flooring and stair treads. A cement driveway surround and raised first floor give the exterior a classic beach house aesthetic. The interior is designed around an open floor plan with living room, dining room, and kitchen in one area. With [NEWPORT black walnut flooring](https://resawntimberco.com/product/newport-black-walnut/) on both the main floor and top floor, the homeowners included custom designed black walnut stair treads to connect the two floors.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The North Face is a well established outdoor sports brand under the ownership umbrella of VF Corporation. The brand joins the likes of JanSport and Timberland in VF Corporation’s “Outdoor Action Sports” section. With the company’s background and identity as an outdoor sports clothing and equipment retailer, they were inspired by the ruggedness and simplicity of nature. Architecture and design team, [Rapt Studio](http://raptstudio.com), used reSAWN’s [ MERCER white oak flooring ](https://resawntimberco.com/product/mercer-white-oak/), exposed ceilings, and brick walls to convey The North Face brand.

[Dixon Hughes Goodman, LLP](https://www.dhgllp.com/) included reSAWN’s [KINOKO shou sugi ban reclaimed hemlock](https://resawntimberco.com/product/kinoko-shou-sugi-ban) wall cladding in their new Gaithersburg location. Located in the [LEED-EB Platinum certified](http://www.usgbc.org/leed), One Washingtonian Center, Dixon Hughes Goodman made the move from Rockville, MD with an increased focus on sustainability. [Gensler-DC](http://www.gensler.com/offices/washington-d-c) designed the office space with sustainable features and a simple aesthetic.

From the [Longport Residence](https://resawntimberco.com/project/longport-residence-shou-sugi-ban-white-oak/) and [Commonwealth Joe](https://resawntimberco.com/project/commonwealth-joe-charred-shou-sugi-ban-mix/) to [Sushi Ganso](https://resawntimberco.com/project/sushi-ganso-shou-sugi-ban/) and the [University of Delaware](https://resawntimberco.com/project/university-of-delaware-wide-plank-oak/), reSAWN TIMBER co. focused on consistently providing high-quality products for commercial and residential projects both large and small. reSAWN intends to provide the best possible customer experience from the sampling phase through project completion, and continues to innovate by asking, "Could we be doing this better?"

ABOUT THE PROJECT
With an origin story that includes a mother and son coffee roasting team, biking cold brew coffee kegs to farmer’s markets and high-tech offices, and supplying coffee to the owners’ favorite indie coffee shops, [Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters](http://commonwealthjoe.com/) has opened its first permanent location at the former home of “Arlington’s Original Coffee House.” The four childhood friends who make up the ownership group bought the “Java Shack” from owner Dale Roberts in 2015, and were named the D.C. metropolitan’s “Best Coffee Shop” by Washington City Paper in 2016.
