ABOUT THE PROJECT
The North Face is a well established outdoor sports brand under the ownership umbrella of VF Corporation. The brand joins the likes of JanSport and Timberland in VF Corporation’s “Outdoor Action Sports” section. With the company’s background and identity as an outdoor sports clothing and equipment retailer, they were inspired by the ruggedness and simplicity of nature. Architecture and design team, [Rapt Studio](http://raptstudio.com), used reSAWN’s [ MERCER white oak flooring ](https://resawntimberco.com/product/mercer-white-oak/), exposed ceilings, and brick walls to convey The North Face brand.

[Dixon Hughes Goodman, LLP](https://www.dhgllp.com/) included reSAWN’s [KINOKO shou sugi ban reclaimed hemlock](https://resawntimberco.com/product/kinoko-shou-sugi-ban) wall cladding in their new Gaithersburg location. Located in the [LEED-EB Platinum certified](http://www.usgbc.org/leed), One Washingtonian Center, Dixon Hughes Goodman made the move from Rockville, MD with an increased focus on sustainability. [Gensler-DC](http://www.gensler.com/offices/washington-d-c) designed the office space with sustainable features and a simple aesthetic.

Like most industries in the modern business landscape, the architectural and design industry is placing ever-increasing importance on sustainability. It simply isn’t enough to build or design a beautiful structure or space in 2017; it’s essential to consider the long lasting implications of every facet of the design process. With certifying bodies like the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), LEED, Cradle2Cradle, Living Building Challenge, the WELL Building Standard, and numerous others, architects, designers, manufacturers, and builders are considering the well-being of building inhabitants and the conscious maintenance of natural resources with newfound diligence.

2016 brought an abundance of [charred shou sugi ban](https://resawntimberco.com/shou-sugi-ban/), reclaimed wood, FSC certified flooring, solid, custom built [furniture](https://resawntimberco.com/rstco-furniture/), and sometimes a little bit of everything. From the [Longport Residence](https://resawntimberco.com/project/longport-residence-shou-sugi-ban-white-oak/) and [Commonwealth Joe](https://resawntimberco.com/project/commonwealth-joe-charred-shou-sugi-ban-mix/) to [Sushi Ganso](https://resawntimberco.com/project/sushi-ganso-shou-sugi-ban/) and the [University of Delaware](https://resawntimberco.com/project/university-of-delaware-wide-plank-oak/), reSAWN TIMBER co. focused on consistently providing high-quality products for commercial and residential projects both large and small. reSAWN intends to provide the best possible customer experience from the sampling phase through project completion, and continues to innovate by asking, "Could we be doing this better?"

ABOUT THE PROJECT
With an origin story that includes a mother and son coffee roasting team, biking cold brew coffee kegs to farmer’s markets and high-tech offices, and supplying coffee to the owners’ favorite indie coffee shops, [Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters](http://commonwealthjoe.com/) has opened its first permanent location at the former home of “Arlington’s Original Coffee House.” The four childhood friends who make up the ownership group bought the “Java Shack” from owner Dale Roberts in 2015, and were named the D.C. metropolitan’s “Best Coffee Shop” by Washington City Paper in 2016.

Located in Harads, Sweden, The Treehotel is made up of seven treehouse rooms that are each designed based on different sources of inspiration with the main focus on reconnecting with nature. The contemporary designs by leading Scandinavian architects are simple, luxurious, and ideal spaces for vacations of mindfulness and views of the Lule River. The 7th and latest room design is 32 feet off the ground and completely covered in shou sugi ban charred cedar.

Just west of Washington D.C., [The Bartlett](http://thebartlett.com/) is a high-end residential complex in the heart of Pentagon City. On the 16th floor, [Hartman Design Group](http://www.hartmandesigngroup.com/active/) created a loft area with games, full kitchen, and outdoor patio that includes reSAWN TIMBER co.’s [KUJAKU shou sugi ban](http://resawntimberco.com/product/kujaku-shou-sugi-ban/) charred cypress and [DUSK](http://resawntimberco.com/product/dusk-white-oak-flooring/) original cut white oak wall cladding…

Located in the coastal town of Bellport, the residence has a heavily wooded landscape and cul-de-sac neighborhood. The ocean is never too far away, though, with a stiff, salty sea breeze. It’s the same breeze that requires the installation of a high-quality exterior wood siding. Located a brief ferry ride away from North Haven, NY, Shelter Island is a secluded coastal town with houses overlooking the water and ample places to watch the sunset. Upon arriving at the residence, an ivy archway with a rustic wooden door begins the path to the pool house that features reSAWN TIMBER co.’s [MONOGATARI shou sugi ban charred cypress](https://resawntimberco.com/product/monogatari-shou-sugi-ban/) exterior siding.
