ABOUT THE PROJECT

This private residence is located in the mountains of [Asheville](https://www.exploreasheville.com/), NC. Built into the densely forested mountainside, the home combines timeless building materials and a modern structural design. reSAWN's [IRUKA](https://resawntimberco.com/product/iruka-shou-sugi-ban/) shou sugi ban charred cypress exterior siding and rustic stone columns are major features that contribute to the overall design concept.

From reSAWN's [CHARRED NEUTRAL collection](https://resawntimberco.com/shous-sugi-ban-charred-neutral/), IRUKA features a compelling mix of browns and differing wood grain widths. The color scheme of this [shou sugi ban](https://resawntimberco.com/shou-sugi-ban/) product completes the naturalist design aesthetic that is so prominent in the Asheville architecture scene. [Carlton-Edwards DesignBuild](http://carlton-edwards.com/designbuild/) specified IRUKA as a sleek feature to accent the rustic nature of the home.

 Asheville, NC is a historic mountain city in western North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains. With an architecture scene that's highlighted by the 19th century Biltmore estate, Asheville is quickly growing into one of the most sustainably focused small cities in the Eastern U.S. The heavily forested city has gained national notoriety for its influx of artists and musicians. The Downtown Art District is filled with art galleries and museums, and in the nearby River Arts District, old factories have been refurbished into chic artists' studios.

The wood is carefully charred, misted with water, cooled, brushed to remove dust and loose debris, and then stained/sealed to create the unique designs you will find in the CHARRED collection.  The top coat sealer is applied prior to shipping (for exterior applications, we recommend sealing the face & back).
